Technical builder with an appetite for projects bigger than me. I still write production code. TexoByte is my company: products I ship and Rivet Web Co, the studio for hired web work. GitHub is where the side experiments live.
The path
- Eagle Scout
I did not get here on my own. Friends and family believed in me early on, when I did not always believe in myself. Earning Eagle Scout was the first time I understood what steady effort and people in your corner can do.
- Submarines
The Navy came next. I qualified in submarines aboard USS Greeneville in the Pacific before I could legally drink, earning my submariner dolphins. That job taught me standards, teamwork, and how to perform when the stakes are real.
- Chief to Senior Chief
I made the leap to the civilian side to do what I actually wanted: build software. Later I had the privilege of earning Chief, then Senior Chief, and spending years guiding and mentoring Sailors. That still means a lot to me.
- Pilot and founder
Somewhere in there I chipped away at a private pilot certificate. Then came the wild idea of starting my own company and everything that goes with it. HobbsMate, RoleShepherd, TexoByte, Rivet Web Co, and the rest. Still building.
I like building useful things and leaving the place a little better than I found it. That is the thread from submarines to software to products people use every week.
How I think about work
Work hard, play hard, with a cold dose of reality mixed in. We all have a finite time to work. I plan to earn what I can doing work I actually enjoy. Anything else is fantasy. When it is time to work, let's work. When we are off the clock, grab a beer.
Clear UX, solid architecture, accessibility, systems that stay up at 2 a.m. I use modern tools to move faster, but I own what ships.
What TexoByte is
TexoByte, LLC is my company. The legal and business home for products I ship, and for Rivet Web Co, the client-facing studio for hired web work. Both are me. This site is the hub.
Not a white-label shell. Commercial SaaS, open source, creative work, and experiments. A few get archived when they have done their job.
